The
environmental benefits of using existing materials, and the
associated potential financial savings, makes cold recycling a
natural solution to carriageway maintenance and reconstruction.
An
Increasing proportion of carriageway maintenance budgeting is
required merely to maintain the existing road network.
Powerbetter
can assist in preparing proposals for Recycling of roads, and the
stabilisation and remediation of soils to provide a cost-efficient
alternative to the traditional solutions for reconstruction and repair.
With
a Recycled roadbase from 125mm up to a depth of 300mm in a single
pass, Deep Recycling is a fast and economical reconstruction solution
to damaged roads. Considerable savings in imported materials, energy
and reduction of lorry movements can be achieved. After initial
pulverisation using specialist deep Recycling machines, the surface
is compacted and trimmed. Excess material is removed before recycling
binders such as Foamed bitumen, bitumen emulsion and OPC are added
and mixed to the required depth.
Powders
such as cement are laid by mechanical spreaders before mixing, with
water being added in a controlled quantity to optimise the mix; once
recycling is complete, the material will again be compacted and the
surface shaped to the required level. Finally the surface is coated
with bituminous emulsion and sealing grit before being subjected to traffic.
The
ultimate benefits are reduction in costs, a speedier construction
period, less traffic disruption, greater conservation of energy and
waste and a more efficient and durable end-product. |
